Academic Ranking of World Universities
The University is rated 10th in the UK, 28th in Europe, and 88th in the world in an annual academic ranking of the top 500 universities worldwide published in August 2010.
Researchers evaluated the universities using several research performance indicators, including the number of highly cited researchers, academic performance, articles in the periodicals Science and Nature, and the number of Nobel prize winners.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities was previously known as the Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities.

THE-QS World University Rankings
The University is rated 82nd in world in the 2009 Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings.
These rankings were derived using a combination of reputational surveys, staff:student ratios, the proportion of international staff and students, and research citations.
At last count, UNESCO recognised over 9,000 universities in the world. The reality is that there are closer to 30,000. By appearing in the top 100, places The University in the top 95th percentile of all universities in the world.
